Next week we are going to go see our brand-new granddaughter in Denver. My son Josh and his wife, Mari had a little girl named Avery. To say we are excited about this, doesn’t do it justice. You see a picture of her, and we can’t wait to meet her and get to know her and hang out with her.
I have to admit that being called Grandpa is a bit weird. I don’t feel old enough to be a grandfather, but I also realize that being young and being a grandpa are mutually exclusive. So, I am old, and I am a grandfather and it feels pretty exciting. We have been getting a steady stream of pictures since Avery has been born and like all grandparents, I have been showing these pictures to everyone I can think of. I remember being forced to look at others’ grandparents’ pictures and thinking then, don’t all babies kind of look alike? I can’t really tell any difference.
But I have recently seen the error in my thinking and realize our grandchild looks better than most babies! I have other pictures you can see too!
In this second picture I am holding Josh right after he was born in March and in the background the NCAA Basketball Tournament is on. I have my eyes closed because he never slept. On the Right Josh is holding Avery who was born in the fall so football is on the TV in the background. He has a better TV than I had!
In Proverbs 17:6 it says, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.” We have a crown and we get to see her soon. It feels good!
