The holiday season is past. New Year’s resolution time is upon us. UGH! Let’s not spoil the new year by forcing thought about specific and maybe dreaded resolutions.
Instead, let’s have some fun with the word and concept of will.
In 2024 :
First, what thoughts will come into our minds?
Second, which ones will we give attention to?
Third, which thoughts will we have the willpower- the follow through- to act upon?
Switching from will to willpower - to move something along from thought to action- that is the trick. Often, people use the term “willpower” when talking about behaviors that require significant mental or physical effort. Willpower is the ability to control one's own actions, emotions, or urges in order to pursue long-term goals. In other words, willpower is a person’s ability to consciously control their behavior.
Best wishes with your willpower in 2024.
Christians often talk about the will of God. God’s will has been clearly stated. When asked the most important commandment- the will of God- Jesus answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:38
But we want more details for our lives. We want to know, God
Will I get that job promotion next year?
Will I possibly meet a marriage partner?
Will ? You fill in your request.
The biggest question is will we have faith and patience. Will we trust God in the details.
God says we should.
“For I know the plans I have for you. Says the Lord” Jeremiah 29:11
“The Lord will work out His plans for my life” Psalms 138:8
2024 will be no different than any other year. It will have its collection of triumphs and tragedies.
Do we spend 2024 trusting God’s promise that He has a plan for our good- no matter how possibly confusing. Or will we spend the year worrying? Which will will win for us?
