Have you ever been curious as to how or why I got involved with Children’s Ministries? Involvement in Children’s Ministries was not even on my radar when our family first came to Westbrook. Little did I know at the time, God had a completely different plan for my life. As I signed up to serve at VBS, that plan was set into motion. The week of VBS changed my heart as I connected with the kids and changed their hearts as they decided to give their lives to Christ. During this week, I felt my calling to become involved serving in our Children’s Ministries, and during that time, I began dreaming of what our Children’s Ministries could become. When the Children’s Director positioned opened up, I truly felt God had His hand in opening that door to me.
VBS is Westbrook’s biggest outreach event of the year, which attracts new kids and families to our church from our surrounding communities. Our VBS has been unique from other churches in the area, offering a sports-themed VBS. Sports have become such an essential part of youth culture, and offering four days of free sports has been effective in reaching families in our area. While we have sports and fun in mind, the mission of VBS is to share the gospel with kids in the hope that they will choose to follow Christ and receive salvation.
This is an incredible time to promote our church, and VBS is a great way to do it. However, it takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful VBS. There are plenty of opportunities to serve from coaches and assistants who directly lead kids to behind-the-scenes help. It is an incredible experience to connect with kids, share your faith, and hopefully lead them to faith in Christ.
