Uniting for Ukraine

Last year the United States Government created a new program called “Uniting for Ukraine” which makes it easier for Ukrainians to come to the United States under a Humanitarian Parole Visa. The Humanitarian Parole Visa is good for two years and allows Ukrainians to work and apply for programs and services that are available to refugees at the federal, state, and local level.

Our family has been looking for ways to help people whose lives have been completely upended by the war in Ukraine. This program requires that a sponsor in the US agree to provide financial support to ensure that Ukrainian refugees have sufficient resources when they arrive in the country. Our family is planning on sponsoring two sisters from Ukraine, and we are hoping that they will be able to travel to the US in May. In addition to these two sisters, we would also like to sponsor another family of 4. While our family is willing to make the financial commitment, we need the help of our Westbrook Community to provide temporary housing while this family works on finding jobs and permanent housing. We don’t know how long temporary housing will be required but our guess is approximately 90 days.

We would love to partner with our Westbrook Community family in helping Ukrainians who are seeking shelter from the war.

I believe Matthew 35:25 says it best.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
