God is on our side.

The Super Bowl is not technically an American holiday; but it is to me. I couldn’t tell you what day Thanksgiving is on this year, which Sunday is Mother’s Day (sorry mom), or even what day of the week my birthday is; the Superbowl on the other hand has been circled on the calendar for far too long. Football was my first love. Since before I could read, I was glued to the TV watching football. To be honest, not much has changed. I just yell a little bit more. I’m passionate about cheering these players on and watching them do incredible athletic feats. People I have never met have me running around the room, hugging my friends, shouting, and throwing my shoe at the TV (yes that has happened...). I love to get excited watching and engaging with the game.

Did you know our Heavenly Father gets even more excited about watching over you and me? Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (ESV). Even more, He’s not just a fan. He’s invested. It is pretty cool knowing that God is on our side, cheering us on. He knows the outcome; and will cheer us on every step of the way.

When it feels like victory is so far away, and the odds are stacked against us God’s victory song remains loud and true. When you can’t hear it, I encourage you to quiet the world around you and ask Jesus to sing it again. As we gather around the living room next Sunday and watch the game with our friends and family let’s remember that there is a voice louder than ours cheering us on.
